纽约州 DMV 给境内合法非移民发放的驾照，均带有“Temporary Visitor Exp”字样，并附上申请驾照时的非移民身份有效期。对于 F/J/M 身份人士，这个日期是 I-20 的结束日期；对于其他大多数非移民身份（例如 H/L）人士，这个日期是申请驾照时的 I-94 的到期日。和其他一些州不同，纽约州驾照本身的有效期通常会比非移民身份有效期长。那么，如果一个非移民已经通过 USCIS 延长了身份有效期，驾照上的“Temporary Visitor Exp”过期之后，驾照本身过期之前，还需要做什么吗？需要主动去重新办一个驾照吗？
DMV 官方网站上对此没有说明。我向 DMV 查询后，得到的官方答案如下：
The temp visitor status does not affect the life of the license nor your driving privilege. You should, at your earliest convenience, bring in updated immigration documents so that we can update the record. The one thing the visitor status will affect is if you lose your card, we could not replace any document without updated immigration status if it is expired.
